This Beach

All this happened out at sea, beyond the Point of Destiny
I thought that life was out of reach, till I was washed up on this beach

I'd sailed my high seas with a green crew of fools

Attacked all my problems with the wrong set of tools
Till I bailed out and I wondered why nobody came to my rescue
What could I do to be saved from all of my wrongs?

Oh I swore by the saints that my ways I would mend

If God sent me an angel, a foil and a friend
Then I capsized one day in the Sound of Lost Souls
And my eyes closed on what I chose as I sank deep into dark sleep.
Where the eels twist in the whirlpools sucked down where the sharks rule.

For all my imperfections crook'd back'd and aching I could scream,
You saw me through my resurrection, face-slapped and waking from a dream.

I lay on my back on the burning hot sand
I'd squandered my chances in every port in the land,
I was washed-up and churned out as the tide turned and left me a dead man
In a strange land, lost there and who'd care
If my body was found where I ran aground on that beach...

For all my imperfections, crook'd back'd and aching I could scream,
You saw me through my resurrection, face-slapped and waking from a dream.

You took my hand and you led me on
To the edge of time and tide.
Through ebb and flow, where fresh winds blow
And you would not be denied.

You said "this beach goes on forever, this beach goes on and on,
This beach goes on forever, this beach goes on and on..."

"this beach goes on forever, this beach goes on and on,
This beach goes on forever, this beach goes on and on..."

I looked-back at the swell, the white horses that rose
Shed not one single tear as the chapter was closed,
On the storms and squalls and the fire-skies that reigned on the old days
Where the past stays, laid bare and left there
So far out at sea whilst we cheat destiny on this beach...
